Green Heritage Fund Suriname
The Green Heritage Fund Suriname is a trust fund that was set up in Suriname in October 2005 and is a non-profit organisation. The trust fund was established to fund activities that help promote the green image and cultural heritage of Suriname.

Vision
Our vision is to create a society of people who consciously work for continued improvement of their environment, and promote a green, clean and healthy Suriname.

Mission Statement
The GHFS seeks to generate the maximum resources possible to finance activities that will ensure that all Surinamers are equipped to take wise and balanced decisions about the sustainable development of Suriname’s natural resources and biodiversity. These funds will be managed in a manner consistent with the values of volunteerism, love for environmental conservation, pro-action for self-betterment, accountability, transparency, and empowerment.

Aims and objectives
The GHFS will fund activities that:

·   Promote environmental awareness, including the building of broad-based public support for environmental issues and effective grassroots activism for environmental issues

·   Promote the institutionalization of a sound conservation ethic

·   Promote the recuperation and revival of cultural awareness, including those dimensions of Surinamese culture that embody positive values and practices, as well as indigenous knowledge about the environment

·   Promote environmental education, including the development of environmental educational material, and support the delivery of courses on environmental issues pertaining to Suriname, including public education programmes on the environment and sustainable development

·   Promote research into environmental issues

·   Promote the development and utilization of local expertise in environmental issues

·   Promote collaborative relationships between individuals and institutions concerned with Suriname's sustainable future
