This website is set up and maintained for
the Foundation “Green
Heritage Fund Suriname” by Monique Pool, Managing
Director of Suriname Environmental Advisory Services N.V.
(SEAS NV), and caretaker and guardian of Loesje the
three-toed baby sloth. Monique’s fate has brought sloths

Green Heritage Fund
Suriname
The Green Heritage Fund Suriname is a
trust fund that was set up in Suriname in October 2005 and
is a non-profit organisation. The trust fund was established
to fund activities that help promote the green image and
cultural heritage of Suriname.
Vision
Our vision is to create a society of people who consciously
work for continued improvement of their environment, and
promote a green, clean and healthy Suriname.
Mission Statement
The GHFS seeks to generate the maximum
resources possible to finance activities that will ensure
that all Surinamers are equipped to take wise and balanced
decisions about the sustainable development of Suriname’s
natural resources and biodiversity. These funds will be
managed in a manner consistent with the values of
volunteerism, love for environmental conservation,
pro-action for self-betterment, accountability,
transparency, and empowerment.
Aims
and objectives
The GHFS will fund activities that:

Promote environmental awareness, including the building of
broad-based public support for environmental issues and
effective grassroots activism for environmental issues
·
Promote the institutionalization of a sound conservation
ethic
·
Promote the recuperation and revival of cultural awareness,
including those dimensions of Surinamese culture that embody
positive values and practices, as well as indigenous
knowledge about the environment
·
Promote environmental education, including the development
of environmental educational material, and support the
delivery of courses on environmental issues pertaining to
Suriname, including public education programmes on the
environment and sustainable development
·
Promote research into environmental issues
·
Promote the development and utilization of local expertise
in environmental issues
·
Promote collaborative relationships between individuals and
institutions concerned with Suriname's sustainable future
